Bernd Völkle, born in Müllheim in 1940, works in painting and sculpture. His small compositions on cigar boxes incorporate the printed lettering and paper borders of their supports. Landscapes and crosses become diary-like notes. The Deutscher Künstlerbund presented a selection in the exhibition Kleine Arbeiten weit oben in 2007.
His painting also operates on a larger scale: Malereilandschaft II, made in 1994 in oil on particleboard, measures 128 by 184 centimetres. It belongs to the Expressionismus-Stiftung at the Kunstmuseum Bern. In 2023, an exhibition at the Dreiländermuseum in Lörrach brought his work together with that of Albert Schöpflin, known as Scopin. His installations extended an experimental approach in which objects and abstraction encounter one another.
This profile brings together identity references for Bernd Völkle and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
