Heinrich Neppel, a German painter born in Munich in 1874 and who died in that city in 1936, is associated with landscape painting. According to Invaluable’s biographical entry, he studied at an art school in Munich and worked in the city. The same entry presents him as the brother of the artists Carl and Hermann Neppel, as well as a member of the Reichsverband Bildender Künstler Deutschlands.
A comment by Bruckmann, reported in paraphrase in an auction catalogue, describes a landscape painter who incorporated figures and animals into his compositions and favoured dramatic skies. Auction catalogues mention oil landscapes on cardboard or wood, including a work from around 1910 signed “H. Neppel” and a summer landscape with cows in the water.
This profile brings together identity references for Heinrich Neppel and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
