Gustave Singier (1909–1984), described as a non-figurative painter, printmaker and lithographer, worked across several creative fields. His work also includes designs for tapestries, mosaics and stained glass, reflecting a practice that extends beyond painting. From 1923 to 1926, he trained at the École Boulle, then worked as a draughtsman for a shopfitting company before turning to painting. In 1941, he took part in the exhibition “Vingt Jeunes peintres de tradition française”, described by the source as the first avant-garde painting exhibition in Paris under the Occupation. His first solo exhibition was held in 1949 at the Billiet-Caputo gallery; subsequently, the Galerie de France regularly exhibited his work. He taught at the Académie de Ranson, then at the Beaux-Arts de Paris. Among the listed works is “Mistral-nuit”, dated 1960 and attributed to Singier by the Art Institute of Chicago.
