Léon de Bastard

Born : 1855Died : 1925Documented citizenships : France

Léon de Bastard (1855–1925), born in Paris and deceased in Auvers-sur-Oise, was a French painter, etcher and lithographer. A pupil of Antoine Guillemet and Henri Lefort, he worked particularly in landscape painting and etching. His participation in the Salon is documented between 1879 and 1897. His career thus belongs to the landscape and printmaking circles of the late nineteenth century.

The Musée Louis-Senlecq in L’Isle-Adam holds his print L’Isle-Adam, la pointe de l’île Conti, demonstrating his interest in sites along the Oise valley. A Landscape with a Cart, kept at Saint-Agrève’s town hall and attributed to him by France’s heritage inventory, depicts a rural scene at dusk. Painting and printmaking allowed him to approach different aspects of inhabited landscape.

This profile brings together identity references for Léon de Bastard and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
