Born in Minneapolis in 1891 and deceased in 1982, Anne Lee, also known as Ann Lee, was an American artist whose career connected the United States, Paris and Haute-Savoie. She studied at the Art Students League of New York before continuing her training in Paris at the Académie André Lhote and the Grande Chaumière. She returned to the United States during the Second World War, then came back to France in 1949 and worked in Thonon-les-Bains.
Her practice encompassed painting, printmaking, drawing and watercolour. The Bénézit dictionary identifies the influence of Cubism and Surrealism in her work. She also made mosaics: Thonon’s heritage documentation attributes works on Avenue Saint-François-de-Sales and Avenue Jules-Ferry to her, the latter combining glass paste and ceramics.
This profile brings together identity references for Anne Lee and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
