Servando Cabrera Moreno

Born in Havana in 1923, Servando Cabrera Moreno was a Cuban painter who lived until 1981. After graduating from the San Alejandro Academy in 1942, he continued his training at the Art Students League of New York and then at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris. His first solo exhibition took place at the Lyceum in Havana in 1943.
He subsequently took part in the international biennials of Venice, Mexico City and São Paulo. He received a gold medal at the Pan-American Exhibition in Tampa and a silver medal at the Joan Miró International Drawing Competition in Barcelona.
The Cuban peasantry occupies a notable place in his work: he devoted many paintings to it. His paintings belong to the vanguardia tradition and are particularly indebted to the work of Carlos Enríquez Gómez. The biographical source also presents him as a supporter of the Cuban Revolution.
