Václav Brožík pursued a career in history painting between the Czech art world and Paris. He received a second-class medal at the Salon of 1878, then worked with the dealer Charles Sedelmeyer, whose daughter he married in 1879. Commissions marketed by his father-in-law reached collectors in Europe and America. Brožík also became a member of the French Académie des Beaux-Arts.
The gallery in Ostrava holds ten of his oil paintings and forty-four preparatory drawings, offering evidence of how he developed his compositions. He also painted landscapes: Prague City Gallery owns his Forest Interior, alternatively titled Mushrooms in the Forest, dated 1891. He belonged to the Jednota umělců výtvarných, an association established in 1898 by artists committed to traditional forms of painting.
