Anton Schrödl grounded his painting in observation of rural Austria. Trained at the Vienna Academy and also active as a lithographer, he frequently depicted life in the Alps. His subjects connect landscape, animals and human presence; their variety appears in works executed on paper, wood and cardboard.
Village in the Mountains, dated 1855 and held in the Liechtenstein collections, combines pencil and watercolour to describe an inhabited setting. Cows before an Alpine Hut in the Pinzgau, around 1890, in the Wien Museum, shifts attention towards livestock through a small oil painting on wood. The Portrait of Adele Schrödl in a Landscape, dated 1874 and held by the same museum, joins an individual figure to her surroundings. These works reveal several uses of landscape within his practice.
This profile brings together identity references for Anton Schrodl and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
