Jens Adolf Jerichau

Born : 1890Died : 1916

Jens Adolf Emil Jerichau was a Danish painter whose brief career combined the study of old masters with a reinvention of mythological subjects. Entering the Copenhagen Academy as an architecture student in 1909, he switched to painting the following year and studied there until 1913. He travelled to southern France and Spain and counted Axel Salto among his artistic associates.

He developed large allegorical compositions with numerous figures, including People Seeking Omens, painted in 1914–1915. The Creation of Eve, Composition, Opus II, dated 1915, belongs to the Statens Museum for Kunst. He also left landscapes and etchings. The Louisiana Museum highlights the subsequent impact of his work on Asger Jorn and Per Kirkeby. His final stay took him to Paris in 1916.
