Gonzalo Endara Crow was born in Bucay in 1936 and died in Quito in 1996. The Ecuadorian artist worked as a painter, muralist and sculptor. Partly trained at Universidad Central, he developed a personal investigation of colour and form. His images connect the Andean landscape with an imaginative world in which familiar places are transformed through rhythmic lines and chromatic intensity.
His first mural, made in 1974 at Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja, depicts the city within its surrounding terrain, with houses rising above undulating lines. Quito, a municipal commission of 1986 comprising twenty-eight panels, extends this encounter between urban and rural geography. Restored and reinstalled in the municipal palace in 2020, the work demonstrates the public dimension of his varied artistic practice.
