Flora Fong trained in Camagüey and then at the National School of Art in Havana, graduating in 1970. She taught at San Alejandro until 1989. Her practice extends from painting to ceramics, stained glass and kites, with attention to the variety of available supports. She has experimented particularly with irregularly shaped wooden panels.
La boda, an oil painting of 1976 preserved in Cuba’s national museum, measures 214 centimetres in height and 121.5 centimetres in width. Girasol, from 1996, instead uses oil on canvas. En busca del sol, made in 2010, uses acrylic. These works mark a practice also open to international exchanges, as demonstrated by her solo exhibition in Beijing in 1997.
This profile brings together identity references for Flora Fong and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
