Bedřich Feigl, also known as Friedrich or Frederick Feigl, was a painter and printmaker born in Prague in 1884. He participated in the Osma group, whose first exhibition took place in 1907. His graphic work includes Prague subjects, illustrations and biblical scenes. Following the Nazi occupation, he left Czechoslovakia for England in 1939.
In London, he exhibited within émigré circles and took part in Ben Uri’s activities, serving on its Art Committee during the 1950s. His gouache The Restaurant, held by that museum, returns to a recurring subject: the coffee houses and restaurants familiar from Prague and Berlin. Chicago’s Smart Museum also holds prints entitled Prague, dated around 1923. These works belong to the graphic side of his practice. Feigl died in London in 1965.
This profile brings together identity references for Bedřich Feigl and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
