Born in Rosario in 1942, Adolfo Nigro developed his artistic education with teachers including Antonio Pujía, Víctor Magariños, Aurelio Macchi and Héctor Nieto. During his studies he also worked in several trades, including construction and metalworking. His practice extended the constructive universalism of Torres García while giving space to an imaginative world rooted in the Río de la Plata region. Water became an early thematic focus, subsequently joined by air and earth. Drawing, collage, painting, ceramics and tapestry allowed him to explore these concerns through different materials. His compositions have themselves been compared to tapestries. Exhibitions in Latin America, Europe and the United States brought this work before audiences beyond the region in which it developed.
