Heinrich Carl Schubert (1827–1897), born and deceased in Vienna, was an Austrian painter of landscapes and flowers. He received his first lessons from his father, Karl Schubert, before studying at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts between 1841 and 1850 under Thomas Ender and Franz Steinfeld. He also accompanied his teachers on study journeys, combining academic training with direct observation of landscapes.
Initially concentrating on landscape painting in oils, he increasingly turned to watercolour around 1860 and to flowers from 1870. Aristocratic patrons commissioned series of landscape views. He also taught drawing to Prince Ferdinand of Saxe-Coburg from 1875 and accompanied him to Bulgaria. A member of Vienna's Künstlerhaus between 1868 and 1877, Schubert produced views of the city, its surroundings and several Alpine regions.
This profile brings together identity references for Heinrich Carl Schubert and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
