Tito Aguiari

Tito Aguiari, also known as Agujari, was an Italian painter born in Adria in 1834 who died in Trieste in 1908. A graduate of the Venice Academy of Fine Arts, he taught at Trieste’s Scuola tecnica comunale, where his brother Giuseppe was among his pupils. His practice encompassed religious and historical painting, portraiture and landscape. A portrait of Pasquale Revoltella dated 1862 places his activity within Trieste’s public life, while a watercolour of the market on the quay explores urban space through another medium. Oil and watercolour consequently serve different functions, from depicting a particular person to evoking an animated place. Teaching and artistic production developed together throughout his career.

This profile brings together identity references for Tito Aguiari and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
