Marco Gozzi was a landscape painter from San Giovanni Bianco whose early training remains poorly documented. After working in the Valtellina and Bergamo, he settled in Milan in 1810. A government contract signed in 1807 had already required him to supply three landscapes annually in return for a pension, with subjects chosen by the minister.
His Lombard views therefore developed through public commissions, subsequently continued by the presidency of the Brera Academy. The Bridge at Cassano of 1816, Surroundings of Inverigo of 1817 and the Creola Bridge on the Simplon Road of 1821 describe identifiable locations. Brera characterises this work as a transition from Arcadian landscape towards almost cartographic observation. His signed View of the Bridges at Sedrina, dated 1830, extends that attention to local topography.
This profile brings together identity references for Marco Gozzi and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
