The Italian painter Guido Tallone, born in Bergamo in 1894 and died in Alpignano in 1967, worked primarily in portraiture and landscape. Trained at the Brera Academy under his father, he continued his painting studies in Milan after fighting in the First World War. Portraiture and landscape form the two poles of his practice; his landscapes often depict the surroundings of Alpignano, where he stays with his family in a house inherited from his mother, Eleonora Tango.
He exhibited for the first time in 1923 at the Esposizione Annuale della Società per le Belle Arti ed Esposizione Permanente in Milan. During the 1920s, his travels took him to Berlin, Paris, Madrid and North Africa. He also frequently stayed in Switzerland, where he was appreciated as a portraitist. He first took part in the Venice Biennale in 1930; he went on to exhibit there fairly regularly until 1948.
Having taken refuge in Venice in 1943, he worked after the war and throughout the 1950s in his studios in Milan, Burano and Torcello, while also travelling in Europe and the United States.
