Giuseppe Zigaina (1924–2015), born in Cervignano del Friuli, exhibited in Trieste as early as 1942 and participated in the Venice Biennale in 1948. His engagement with postwar painting took shape in scenes addressing workers and rural struggles in Friuli. His friendship with Pier Paolo Pasolini generated artistic collaborations, notably in cinema.
In the early 1960s, his work addressed violence and relations of domination more directly. The Ceppaie cycle and drawings of this period accompanied a renewal of his visual language. Dormitorio, made in 1964, preceded the printmaking investigations he began in 1965. Printmaking became a major area of his activity. The collections of Casa Cavazzini in Udine hold paintings and drawings documenting these different stages.
This profile brings together identity references for Giuseppe Zigaina and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
