Roger Forissier

Born : 1924Died : 2003Documented citizenships : France

Roger Forissier (1924–2003) placed landscape at the centre of a figurative practice that also encompassed portraits, still lifes and printmaking. Born in Feurs, he trained at the fine arts school in Lyon under Antoine Chartres. Stays in Amsterdam and subsequently at the Casa de Velázquez in Madrid in 1952–1953 broadened the settings he observed. He belonged to the circle of young Nouvelle École de Paris painters associated with the Salon de la Jeune Peinture. After establishing a studio in Recloses, near the forest of Fontainebleau, he continued travelling, notably to Morocco. His activity extended beyond easel painting: he made murals, including one in Lausanne, and contributed sixteen lithographs to a 1971 edition of Raymond Radiguet’s Le Diable au corps.

This profile brings together identity references for Roger Forissier and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
