The Danish painter Christian August Lorentzen, born in Sønderborg and deceased in Copenhagen, was associated with the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from the time of his training. He became a professor there in 1803, then headed the institution in 1809 and 1810, making his career part of its institutional life.
Works associated with him address maritime and historical subjects, among others: “Warships” is listed at the Museum of Copenhagen, while “Bombardment of Copenhagen in 1807” is held at the Statens Museum for Kunst. The English bombardment of Copenhagen and “The Political Tinker” are also among the titles associated with his work.
This profile brings together identity references for Christian August Lorentzen and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
