Julian Taylor, a British painter born in Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1954, studied art for two years in England before developing a largely independent practice. Settling in France in 1975 and later in the Périgord, he favoured landscapes and familiar scenes. His longstanding relationship with Galerie 26 in Paris has supported the presentation of his figurative work.
His paintings depict ports, lighthouses, boats, urban rooftops and mountain refuges. Precise drawing, close attention to detail and the structuring presence of line accompany an exploration of light. He uses acrylic in particular, its clarity suited to this meticulous observation. French landscapes and maritime subjects thus form a coherent repertoire in which architecture and traces of human activity are as important as nature.
This profile brings together identity references for Julian Taylor and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
