Jules-Émile Zingg (Montbéliard, 1882 – Paris, 1942) was a French painter, decorative artist and printmaker whose work focused particularly on landscape. He trained with Félix Giacomotti at the fine arts school in Besançon before entering Fernand Cormon’s studio at the École des beaux-arts in Paris in 1902. His rural scenes and landscapes, including views under snow, reflect a sustained interest in the countryside and agricultural labour. At Perros-Guirec, he met Maurice Denis and Paul Sérusier. The decorative approach of the Nabis helped shape a more simplified pictorial language, with red and green playing a prominent role. Zingg exhibited at the Galerie Druet in Paris in 1918 and also took part in exhibitions organised by the Société belfortaine des beaux-arts, founded in 1926. His career thus brought academic training into dialogue with a personal exploration of colour and the composition of landscape.
