Félix Del Marle

Félix Del Marle, born in Pont-sur-Sambre in 1889, trained in Valenciennes and Lille before joining Parisian avant-garde circles. His Manifeste futuriste à Montmartre appeared in 1913, when speed, industry and urban activity occupied his paintings. Encountering Kupka's work later accompanied his move towards abstraction and musicalism. He also participated in artistic debate through the Lille journal Vouloir, becoming its artistic director in 1927. After returning to figurative painting during the 1930s, he turned to constructions and the role of colour in architecture. A co-founder of the Espace group with André Bloc in 1951, he placed this work within a project to bring the arts together beyond the boundaries of the individual painting. Del Marle died in Courbevoie in 1952.
