Félix-Hippolyte Lanoüe

Born : 1812Died : 1872Documented citizenships : France

Félix-Hippolyte Lanoüe (1812–1872), born in Versailles, was a landscape painter trained by Jean-Victor Bertin and subsequently Horace Vernet. He made his Paris Salon debut in 1833 and won the Prix de Rome for historical landscape in 1841. His stay at the Villa Medici helped him develop an Italian repertoire, exemplified by Paysage d’Italie, a work sent back in 1846 and now held by the museum in Dinan.

After returning, he travelled through the Isère valleys and southern France, then Holland and Russia. His views combine natural sites, rivers and monuments: Niort’s museum holds a Neva panorama, while museums in Avignon and Nîmes possess depictions of the Pont du Gard. He received medals at the Salons of 1847 and 1861.
