Bentcho Obrechkov, born in Karnobat in 1899, trained in Bulgaria, Germany and France. After graduating from the Sofia School of Fine Arts in 1920, he pursued painting in Dresden under Oskar Kokoschka and Otto Dix and attended Antoine Bourdelle's studio at the Grande Chaumière in Paris. Returning to Bulgaria in 1927, he participated in the country's artistic life, including the Rodno izkustvo movement and the New Artists' Society. His work encompassed landscape and portraiture, although still life occupied a particularly important place. This repertoire accompanied a career shaped by European training and subsequently developed in Bulgaria. The bombing of Sofia in 1944 destroyed a substantial part of his output. Obrechkov died in Sofia in 1970.
