Lubin Baugin became a master painter in Saint-Germain-des-Prés in 1629 and later joined the artistic institutions of Paris, entering the royal academy in 1651. His training remains poorly documented. His work encompasses still life and religious painting, two fields in which the arrangement of volumes and clarity of colour play essential roles. Objects in The Wafer Dessert and Still Life with Chessboard focus attention on relationships between forms, while his sacred compositions often use only a small number of figures. Arabesques and rounded volumes contribute to their intimate, poetic character. Alongside small paintings, he produced religious decorations in Paris. This range of formats connects close contemplation with the integration of painting into architectural settings.
This profile brings together identity references for Lubin Baugin and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
