A draughtsman and printmaker from Istria, Angelo Garbizza spent an important part of his working life in Paris, where he was active for roughly a decade. Views of the capital form the centre of his documented production. Some were translated into prints, allowing his drawings to circulate in another form and reach a wider audience. A view of the Arc de triomphe du Carrousel, dated around 1810, combines pen, Indian ink and watercolour. The Pont d'Austerlitz also appears among his subjects, notably in an aquatint made by Pierre-Charles Coqueret after his drawing. His career thus connects the depiction of Parisian monuments with the printed circulation of urban images at the beginning of the nineteenth century.
