Maurice Savin (1894–1973), born in Moras-en-Valloire in the Drôme, developed a practice combining painting and the decorative arts. After secondary school he trained at the École nationale des arts décoratifs in Paris. He participated in the Salon d’automne and joined its committee, while also producing tapestry cartoons, studies for stained-glass windows and medals.
Ceramics occupied an important place within this varied activity. In 1937 he exhibited his creations in the Sèvres pavilion at the Paris International Exhibition. His busts became the subject of a dedicated study published by the Société des Amis du musée national de Céramique. Chanteuse and La Médisance, held by the Musée d’Art moderne de Paris, demonstrate his exploration of the human figure in ceramics.
