Fritz Lange

Born : 1851Died : 1922Documented citizenships : Germany

Fritz Lange (1851–1922) was a German painter associated with Düsseldorf whose practice combined landscape and animal painting. Available biographical accounts describe training with his father, Johann Gustav Lange, followed by study at the Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts. Poultry, particularly ducks, recur in documented works. Rather than isolating the animal, these scenes place it beside a pond or within a river landscape. An oil on canvas dated 1887, for example, depicts ducks on the banks of the Rhine, with a steamship in the background. Nesting Ducks, dated 1904 and painted on panel, demonstrates the continuity of this repertoire in his work.

This profile brings together identity references for Fritz Lange and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
