Carlo Follini (1848–1938) trained with Antonio Fontanesi at Turin’s Accademia Albertina, developing a painting practice attentive to landscape and light. His rapid, sometimes substantial brushwork accompanied his work outdoors. The Museo Borgogna in Vercelli holds Radura, piante e figure, a large oil painting on canvas.
Paesaggio, dated 1909 and held by the Ricci Oddi gallery in Piacenza, is painted on wood. Its fluid handling connects the work with the tradition of nineteenth-century French landscape painting. Alle Zattere Venezia, in Turin’s Palazzo Reale, represents another aspect of his repertoire: the Venetian urban view. Exhibited in Turin in December 1890, this canvas was purchased by the king. Together, these paintings connect the observation of particular places with variations in the handling of paint and support.
This profile brings together identity references for Carlo Follini and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
