Luigi Crosio

Born : 1835Died : 1915

Luigi Crosio was an Italian painter and printmaker active in the second half of the nineteenth century. His genre painting favoured evocations of Pompeii and the seventeenth century. He exhibited at Turin's Promotrice and also produced small paintings intended for reproduction. Printmaking thus extended a practice attentive to the circulation of images.

The Metropolitan Museum holds Messaggio furtivo, an etching published in 1870–1871 within a set issued by the Società d'Artisti Italiani L'Aqua Forte. Genoa's Istituto Mazziniano preserves Genio, a colour lithograph of 1859 showing four full-length soldiers. Published in Turin by Giordana e Salussolia, it belongs to the Figurini militari of the Kingdom of Sardinia. These works document distinct graphic practices, ranging from genre narrative to the description of uniforms.

This profile brings together identity references for Luigi Crosio and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
