Rekha Rodwittiya

Born : 1958Documented citizenships : India

Born in Bengaluru in 1958, Rekha Rodwittiya grew up mainly in Baroda, where her family settled in 1967. She developed her artistic practice there and also studied photography with Jyoti Bhatt. Her figurative painting uses narrative to explore gender, identity and the forms of resistance embedded in everyday life. Allegory and elements related to surrealism or magical realism move familiar situations into a space for reflection. Her commitment extends beyond her own studio: with Surendran Nair, she founded The Collective Studio in Baroda to support younger artists within an alternative learning environment. Exhibitions in India and abroad mark her career, including a solo presentation at Sakshi Gallery in 2018.
