Maurice Poirson was a nineteenth-century French painter who trained under Alexandre Cabanel. His work gives a significant place to female figures, portraiture and scenes of social life. A young woman in a blue dress, moments of leisure and a tea scene illustrate the variety of situations brought together by his interest in people and their surroundings. Documented works include watercolours alongside oil paintings on canvas or wood. His participation in the Salon is attested, notably in 1882 with Les Invalides. Poirson died that same year, leaving a career in which academic training, attention to human figures and the use of different supports and techniques came together.
This profile brings together identity references for Maurice Poirson and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
