Alirio Palacios

Documented citizenships : Venezuela

Alirio Palacios was a Venezuelan painter and printmaker trained in Caracas and Beijing. His research also took him to Geneva and then Kraków, where he developed his work in mezzotint. The catalogue of Santiago’s third American Print Biennial lists four of his aquatints, entitled Grabado and numbered three to six.

Josefina Núñez describes his transition from woodcut to cement printing plates, the basis of the “concretografías”, and the transformation of printing matrices into sculptural objects. Eugenio Montejo connects his dark landscapes with memories of the Orinoco delta, its vegetation and wet earth. These readings illuminate a practice in which the printed image and the physical material that produces it remain closely connected, inviting attention to both the impression and its source.

This profile brings together identity references for Alirio Palacios and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
