Johann Michael Baader was an eighteenth-century German artist whose life connects Eichstätt with Paris. A painter, watercolourist and etcher, he also supplied drawings for prints. The Musée Carnavalet preserves a print made by J. L. Zentner after one of his designs, illustrating a practice that extended beyond the painted picture into collaboration in graphic production. Portraiture is another field associated with his name: a likeness of Valerie Thurneysen at the age of nineteen has been attributed to him. That attribution remains distinct from confirmed authorship. Across painting and graphic art, the documented works offer an introduction to the variety of his media while requiring care over the status of individual works linked to his activity.
This profile brings together identity references for Johann Michael Baader and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
