Ana Eckell trained at the Manuel Belgrano and Prilidiano Pueyrredón schools in Buenos Aires. Drawing holds an important place in her practice and received recognition through the Konex award in 1992. Her compositions engage with Otto Dix and George Grosz, and later with images from comics and cinema, to address power and society.
El candidato, an oil on canvas of 1986 preserved at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, presents ambiguous political figures. Coloured patches precede the accentuation of forms through drawing and brushwork. This painting belongs to the context of Argentina’s return to democracy. Her subsequent career includes a solo exhibition at the museum in 1995 and La voz del agua at the Centro Cultural Recoleta in 2002.
This profile brings together identity references for Ana Eckell and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
