Dimitrie Știubei first pursued a career in the Romanian navy before devoting himself entirely to painting. He attended Jean Alexandru Steriadi’s studio and studied in Munich with Ernst Liebermann and Peter Trumm. The sea is a central subject of his work, particularly the Black Sea coast and the Danube delta. He also depicted vessels such as the brig Mircea and the passenger ship Dacia. His activity extended to monumental compositions, ship decoration and postage stamp designs. After working in his Bucharest studio, he settled in Germany in 1975. His practice thus combines easel painting with decorative commissions connected, among other subjects, with the maritime world.
This profile brings together identity references for Dimitrie Știubei and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
