Paul Flickel

Born : 1852Died : 1903

Paul Flickel (1852–1903), born in Berlin and deceased in Nervi, devoted himself primarily to landscape painting. After beginning in decorative painting, he studied with Theodor Hagen in Weimar and later worked in Düsseldorf. He travelled to Italy, the Harz and Rügen. He was also represented at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900.

In Buchenwald bei Prerow (1885), at Berlin’s Alte Nationalgalerie, patches of light enliven a forest clearing. This oil on canvas measures 48 by 64 centimetres. Another version from 1886, acquired by the museum that year, measures 180 by 250 centimetres. It has been considered missing since 1945. The woodland motif thus appears in markedly different formats.

This profile brings together identity references for Paul Flickel and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
