Auguste Trémont, a Luxembourgish artist born in 1892 who died in 1980, studied at the École des arts décoratifs in Paris from 1909. During the First World War, he drew workers at a Dudelange steelworks. Back in Paris, observing animals at the Jardin des Plantes nourished his sculpture, particularly his representations of big cats.
La coulée de fonte, an oil on canvas of 1916 presented by the Nationalmusée, records his attention to industrial labour. Trémont also belonged to the core of the Luxembourg Secession, whose three Salons took place in 1927, 1929 and 1930. For Luxembourg’s first participation in the Venice Biennale in 1956, Joseph-Émile Muller selected seven of his sculptures, exhibited alongside fifteen paintings by Joseph Kutter.
This profile brings together identity references for Auguste Trémont and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
