Julio Le Parc (1928–2026) was born in Argentina's Mendoza region and studied art in Buenos Aires. A scholarship enabled him to move to Paris in 1958. In 1960 he helped establish the Groupe de recherche d'art visuel, which placed collective experimentation at its centre. He received the international Grand Prize for Painting at the Venice Biennale in 1966.
Paintings, sculptures and installations explore interactions between colour, light and movement. Moving reflections, geometric variations and immersive arrangements alter perception as visitors change position. This active participation also carries a social commitment: Le Parc sought to challenge the public's passivity and the artist's exclusive authority. His work therefore connects the investigations of optical and kinetic art with a collective understanding of artistic experience and the viewer's role.
This profile brings together identity references for Julio Le Parc and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
