Josef Kreutzinger (1757–1829), also known as Joseph, belonged to the circle of Viennese portrait painters. Born and deceased in Vienna, he trained at the city’s Academy of Fine Arts. His patrons included members of the Austrian aristocracy and bourgeoisie, whose likenesses form the core of his work.
The portrait of Prince Alexei Andreyevich Golitsyn, signed and dated 1795, shows the sitter seated in a park with a greyhound. Public collections preserve further examples of his practice: the Belvedere holds portraits of Count Karl Ferdinand Kinsky and Eva Passi, while the portrait of Ferenc Kazinczy, painted in 1808, belongs to the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. A number of miniature portraits complement this production centred on the human figure.
This profile brings together identity references for Joseph Kreutzinger and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
