Born in Romania in 1893, Reuven Rubin is an Israeli painter whose work includes landscapes of historical Palestine, particularly Jerusalem and Galilee. He also creates sets for the Habima Theatre and other theatre companies in Tel Aviv.

Settled in Ottoman Palestine from 1912, he enrolled at the Bezalel School of Arts in Jerusalem, then continued his studies in Paris until the beginning of the First World War. During the conflict, he returned to Romania, where he lived mainly in Fălticeni, and travelled to Italy in 1915. He left for New York in 1920 and stayed in the United States until 1922, during which time a first exhibition was devoted to him. He returned to Palestine in 1923, then under British Mandate.

From 1948 to 1950, Rubin represented Israel in Romania as a diplomatic envoy, with the rank of minister plenipotentiary. His career was also marked by the Dizengoff Prize, which he received in 1964, followed by the Israel Prize in 1973.
