Gaston Robbe (1900–1954) was closely associated with the artistic life of the Haut-Doubs. Initially a notary in Le Russey, he drew before turning to painting with encouragement from Jules-Émile Zingg. Meeting Albert Marquet in Venice in 1936 strengthened this vocation. In 1939 he left his profession to devote himself to art, without having received an academic training.
The landscapes of his home region, especially villages and snowy winters, occupy a major place in his work, alongside portraits and still lifes. He exhibited at the Salon des Annonciades in Pontarlier from 1935 and held a solo exhibition in a Paris gallery in 1951. A retrospective followed at Besançon’s Palais Granvelle in 1957. The Pontarlier museum holds his oil painting Fin d’hiver à Salins.
This profile brings together identity references for Gaston Robbe and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
