Emilio Boggio (1857–1920), also known as Émile Boggio, was a Venezuelan painter and photographer who became a naturalised French citizen. He exhibited at the Salon des artistes français from 1887 to 1920. After a stay in Italy with Henri Martin, he settled in Auvers-sur-Oise in 1910, converting a former farm into a home and studio. Its garden and vegetable plot supplied subjects close to his workplace.
Le saule au printemps, an oil painting on canvas in the Centre Pompidou, is dated 1919 in brackets in the catalogue. The landscape belongs to his exploration of trees and seasons. Boggio’s career also connected France with Venezuela: his 1919 exhibition in Caracas influenced the landscape painters of the Círculo de Bellas Artes and encouraged the local reception of Impressionist painting.
This profile brings together identity references for Emilio Boggio and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
