Hanns Kobinger’s career begins with a dual activity: while employed by the Oberösterreichische Landesbank in Linz, he also attends classes at Matthias May’s art school. From 1919, he is in contact with the «Grille» group of artists in Linz. An accident brings his career as an employee to an end in 1928; he then spends long periods in Dalmatia, Italy and Germany before working as an independent artist. He initially lives and works alternately in Linz, Vienna and Berlin, then works in Grundlsee from 1937. He is also a member of the Vienna Secession.
The documented works attest to a variety of practices and subjects: the colour woodcut Japanese Plant, dated 1940 and signed at the lower right, comes from the Egon Hofmann Collection. Wien, Donaukanal, a woodcut dated 1956, is described as signed and dated at the lower right, and marked as the first proof at the lower left. Other entries mention Herbstliche Waldpartie, executed in ink and watercolour and dated September 1945, as well as two watercolour landscapes on paper entitled Otztal and Tyrol, dated 1947.
From 1946, Kobinger takes part in numerous exhibitions; the biographical entry mentions Stockholm, Minneapolis and Minnesota in particular.
