Pravoslav Kotík

Born : 1889Died : 1970

Pravoslav Kotík (1889–1970) was a Czech painter and graphic artist. The Art Institute of Chicago lists Four Men Planting a Tree (1927), Village Landscape (1954) and Composition with Four Figures (1964). Without presuming their visual treatment, these titles indicate distinct subjects: a group at work, a village landscape and a composition of figures.

The documentary record of Lidé u stolu continues after the artist’s death: an auction notice states that the work was exhibited in Cheb in February 1977, in Pravoslav Kotík. Obrazy, and then in Litoměřice in October–November 1978, in Skupiny, davy, zástupy. The same notice records provenance through the collection of Jaroslav Fröhlich in the Czech Republic, followed by private ownership in Switzerland. The work is also listed as no. 1, with an illustration, in Zuzana Tobolková-Kotíková’s catalogue devoted to the paintings and drawings in the Fröhlich collection, published in 2003.

This profile brings together identity references for Pravoslav Kotík and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
