Moustapha Baidi Oumarou, born in Maroua in 1997, is a Cameroonian artist who taught himself to paint. Following an early interest in drawing, he joined the visual arts club at the University of Maroua. Human figures and colour occupy a central place in his paintings. The Fondation Blachère identifies plant motifs from Central Africa, colours recalling northern Cameroon’s desert regions and an attention to marginalised people in his work. During a residency in La Somone, Senegal, he produced four large canvases that entered the foundation’s collection. Afikaris gallery presented exhibitions of his work including Un monde bleu in 2021 and Après la pluie in 2022.
