Emile Bonny

Born : 1913Died : 1974Documented citizenships : France

Émile Bonny, also known as Milous, was a Swiss painter whose work spans landscape, the figure and decoration. His training in Lausanne with Violette Diserens accompanied a preference for southern landscapes and a progressive simplification of composition. Views of Lake Geneva, Liguria and Venice place this exploration within varied settings. He also addressed portraiture, couples and motherhood, in both painting and printmaking. On a larger scale, the panels made in 1956 for the Chez Félicie restaurant in Morges develop a narrative world linked to Rabelais’s Gargantua. This range of formats brings the intimacy of an individual painting into dialogue with the more expansive presence of decoration conceived for a shared social setting.

This profile brings together identity references for Emile Bonny and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
