Michel Sementzeff (1933–2019) trained at the École supérieure des arts modernes in Paris, where he subsequently taught for thirty-five years. A member of the Salon d’Automne and Salon des artistes français, he developed a figurative practice informed by landscapes and memories. The Lot, Brittany and Normandy were among the regions that inspired him.
Venice and the commedia dell’arte supplied masks and costumes, while childhood inspired fairground rides and still lifes featuring toys or musical instruments. His exhibitions at Galerie Vendôme included Rêves et enchantements in 1989, accompanied by a publication. He contributed a lithograph to the collective volume Hier et aujourd’hui in 1991. Works are recorded in the collections of Boulogne-Billancourt and Courbevoie town hall.
