Wolfgang Spengler
Born in 1624.
Died in 1685.
Wolfgang Spengler is recognised as a glass painter from Konstanz. His activity took place mainly between 1641 and 1651 in Rapperswil, where he specialised in creating stained-glass windows, notably “Standesscheiben”, emblematic windows depicting the coats of arms of the Swiss cantons. These works testify to a high level of craftsmanship and an aesthetic characteristic of his period, although details of his training and influence remain partly obscure.
